View PDFTHE HAGUE, July 22.— The Dutch Government, in a statement handed to Dr Pelt, acting General Secretary of the United Nations, explaining why “police measures” had been taken in Indonesia, said that the Indonesians had violated the truce, it was disclosed today.
The Note said: “The Republic’s unwillingness or inability to implement the Linggadjati agreement, its violation of the truce, its acts of force throughout the Archipelago, its senseless destruction of valuable property, its food blockade and the taking of hostages were all reasons why Holland, as the sovereign Power in those territories, authorized Lieut-Governor-General van Mook to order police measures.”— Reuter.
