4 Imprisoned for Theft of Van Goghs

View PDFAMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A court on Thursday jailed four men for their role in the biggest art theft since World War II, Dutch radio said. The four Dutch nationals had pleaded guilty to stealing 20 works worth about $500 million from the Van Gogh Museum here last April 14. The paintings, which included “Potato Eaters,” “Still Life with Sunflowers” and a self-portrait, were found abandoned in a car hours after the theft. Two former museum guards, Roy Peters, 32, and Robert van Basten, 24, were sentenced to five years in prison along with Patrick van Dillenburg, 28. Alberto MacRooy, 31, was jailed for four years for theft with violence.
